Docklands may never be quite the same again since a group of the UK's most famous celebrities invaded Canary Wharf to collect for the BBC Children in Need appeal for 7 hours on 13th November

Many people were intrigued to see Sven & Nancy together after rumours of their break up and well wishing football fans queued for a photo opportunity and were eager to learn if there was any truth in press stories of his possible move to their team of choice or another country’s national squad.

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne caused a major stir and typically Ozzy got lost twice and fell down the up escalator in the underground station while looking for Sharon….

Ricky Gervais was a great hit with all and was prevailed upon to perform his famous David Brent “Office” dance countless times during the course of the day while engaging the commuters and passers bye with “hard day at the office.., yeah?” and a laconic “quid for a kid?”.

“Basil Fawlty” was unaccompanied by Sybil and was therefore free to flirt (unsuccessfully) with a number of attractive females between hilarious quips and a classic re-creation of “the ministry of silly walks” meets “don't mention the war” and towering over all, he certainly stood out in the crowd.

Victoria couldn’t make it but David and Brooklyn Beckham attracted much attention throughout the day

Billy Connolly was as funny as Anthony Hopkins was scary when he was in full Hannibal Lecter act. We understand no one actually was eaten during BBC filming or the day as a whole.

Mike Myers adopted his well loved Austin Powers persona and wardrobe and was totally outrageous and completely "groovy baby" with his "mojo" at full strength to the irresistible fascination of the totally enchanted and intrigued members of the public!

Deborah Harry recreated some of Blondie’s greatest hits and was as beautiful and talented as many of the workers and commuters remembered and Will Smith was treated with the respect and awe that a super star of his stature always receives together with some very special attention from the ladies.

This event was held at the invitation of the BBC for the 2006 CIN appeal and was, of course organised and undertaken by the elite members of the very exclusive, non-profit Lookalikes-Unite organisation who support, promote and assist these talented actors, entertainers and musicians who “by coincidence” also bear an uncanny resemblance to “real” celebrities and have worked to create unique acts of their own around their appearance and incredible ability to “deceive” in the nicest possible way. It’s been regularly said that these are “the real Spitting Images” and the public seem to confirm it on this unique gathering of so many stars.

Throughout the day the comments of “I can't believe you're really here” and “I've always been a big fan of yours” etc., were directed to the assembled troupe and when the Lookalikes-Unite logo was noticed on the collection buckets or the truth was revealed by one of the assistants, many refused to accept that the acts were not the real thing and some looked for hidden cameras as they were convinced that this was part of filming for a TV show stunt!

The mayhem, mischief and merriment lasted through into the evening and a total of over £1700 was donated by the generous folk of Docklands to the very worthy BBC Children in need fund. Film of this event will be included within Friday’s CIN show and some of the celebrity impersonators will be taking a further break from their busy schedules to appear live from the BBC main studio during the evening.
